In 2005 Managing Director Ryan Smith was awarded the contract to run the out-of-hours facilities for three schools in West Yorkshire. He managed the facilities from new builds and quickly established them as busy community hubs providing valuable income for the schools.

In 2013 Ryan went on to form BEactive Communities Ltd. to help more schools fully utilise their facilities for community use.

The first school to benefit from BEactives specialist services was Melbourn Village College in Hertfordshire. The school had been struggling to manage the sports centre as it was simply outside of their area of expertise. Instead, they decided to concentrate on their strength - running an excellent school, and to outsource the management of their sports centre and adjoining community centre to BEactive.

BEactive took over full operation of the Melbourn facilities in February 2014 and we have seen a real increase in community use and significant income growth in that time. Later that year BEactive also successfully tendered for the Sports Pavilion in Melbourn which is a separate contract with the Parish Council.

The Pavilion had recently undergone a £150k refurbishment and features community rooms and multiple outdoor pitches. BEactive have worked closely with the Parish Council to encourage a wider range of uses at the facility and to ensure that Sport England requirements and targets are satisfactorily met.

We are now in advanced talks with three more schools and hope to bring these online soon. We are also seeking new opportunities throughout the country so if you think your school facilities could benefit from our involvement please contact us.
